With guests including singer Olli Murs and Louis Tomlinson (of One Direction), we were spoiled for choice on guests to speak to! With the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals done and dusted, Wembley Stadium now plays host to a series of friendly England international games, kicking off with an exciting match against Ireland at the end of last month. To mark the occasion, the FA Club opened its doors to 600 lucky England and Ireland fans, who were treated to a world class hospitality experience, produced by TBA. To celebrate the first meeting of England and Ireland in 15 years, the Club welcomed a troupe of Irish dancers who performed on a secondary stage overlooking Wembley Way as fans arrived to the stadium, and a fabulous Irish band (a few members of which had flown in especially for the occasion!). Up on the main stage for our key show, we were lucky enough to welcome Irish footballing legend Kevin Sheedy (currently an academy coach at Everton FC), and former England player Martin Keown (currently scout and coach for Arsenal FC), along with FA Club hosts Simon Thomas and Natalie Sawyer (as above). The pundits and hosts gave us a lively debate both before the match with predictions and after the match with their analyses of the game. However, given his team’s recent Wembley win at the Championship Playoff Final, host Natalie Sawyer spoke to Crystal Palace striker Aaron Wilbraham to garner his thoughts on the game, and to congratulate him on his team’s success. Following a great game (with a surprising 1-1 result), we reopened the Club for the final section of the live show, accompanied by a delicious post match offering and a few friendly celebratory beers for supporters of both sides. The Irish band struck up once more, and saw the night out with an extended session of traditional songs and modern covers with a folk twist, rounding off another brilliant evening at the FA Club.
